Serious Law LLP - Serious Injury Law Solicitors in Bolton: Review

The last article we put out detailed a firm that had mountains of positive peer reviews, but very little client feedback available to view on the web. The one prior was about a firm that seemed to have avoided the lime-light of news articles and review sites like ours yet had dozens of client reviews across all the major rating forums. It seems fitting then to now be writing an article about a firm that actually has both

"We are Serious Law LLP. We work exclusively with clients who have serious and catastrophic injuries. Over the last 31 years, we have dealt with some of the UK’s largest and most complex serious injury cases, achieving numerous multi-million pound settlements for our clients."

There are an unbelievable number of personal injury claims firms out there. What's the difference between a 'serious' injury and a regular one? Two weeks of whiplash after a car accident can be handled by almost any firm because the amounts you can claim are practically set in stone. Serious injuries are when you will need the full expertise of medical experts, psychologists, and legal research to not only discover what your claim is worth - but estimate what you might need for the future. The loss of a limb or your hearing/sight are clear examples of this.

"These include your financial needs, mobility and rehabilitation considerations, specialist medical care, case management and emotional support."

In our experience, a huge number of personal injury firms out there do not have the expertise or resources to handle such complex cases. Typically if the firm's website does not have 'Serious/Catastrophic Injuries' as a specific case title on the front page of their website along with at least one full page about their abilities and experience in that area - we would suggest moving on to the next firm. This is the same advice we've always given for people with Medical Negligence cases as well

"We are the firm of choice for many other legal professionals who recognise our depth of expertise in catastrophic cases."

You can always check The Law Society's website to read about the expertise and experience (or at least qualifying dates) of the various solicitors within any given firm registered with them. If you look at the page for Serious Law there is a range of experience levels, with solicitors from every decade over the past 40 years. John Sherrington qualified in 1985, Timothy Walters in 1997, Jerard Knott in 2002, and right up to Rebecca Hilton in 2017. A good mix of seasoned experience along with fresh minds and ideas.

This claim of a high reputation amongst their peers is also backed up by a good number of quotes on third party sites:

"Serious Law are right up there with the best in terms of calibre of lawyers, methods of working, delivering tangible rehabilitation benefits to their clients."

"A truly stand-out group of partners."

"This firm is absolutely dedicated to providing access to justice to severely injured claimants"

There's an article about their work with a refugee charity in the local newspaper showing their general interest in local matters. Plus one of the main measuring bars of the legal industry (The Legal 500) praises them highly too.

If you've read any of our other law firm review articles, you'll know we typically have at least a few gripes about any firm. Even if it's just to complain about missing contact details on individual team pages or a lack of expected website functionality. However Serious Law really do tick a lot of boxes. Their staff pages do indeed have direct email addresses for each individual solicitor. Plus they list their opening hours as 8am-10pm 7 days a week. It's been some time since we've reviewed a firm that worked anything out of the old-fashioned 9am-5pm Mon-Fri blocks.

Obviously the firm has the standard testimonials on their website. But many people (quite a large percentage according to our poll last year) don't trust them nearly as much as those on third party review sites such as Google, Yell, Trustpilot, etc. But generally speaking, client comments there are predominantly positive as well:

"My solicitor was great. I felt that I was not only in top professional care, but that they cared and understood the emotional/traumatic side of the ordeal I was facing."

"Everyone we have dealt with has treated us with respect, kindness and patience and guided us through a long case."

"It is good to deal with solicitors who actually ring you back and are trustworthy."

Strangely Serious Law's rating on Google is only 3/5, however they only have one negative rating on there out of four reviews, so we're guessing that's what dragged the number down so far? Unfortunately, that negative rating was provided without any comments so we have no idea why it was given or even if it was genuinely for that firm. We've just spent a whole month trying to get a negative review removed under our name. The person was ranting about 'capitalist law firms!'. Nothing to do with our services at all. So we know to take un-explained negative ratings with a pinch of salt.

"We support you for as long as you need us. Our Court of Protection services bring long-term support to seriously injured and vulnerable people. We manage their affairs to provide them with a future that is financially secure."

Naturally with such generic terms in the company name we did some digging about navigation. The firm themselves list a range of trademarks/trading names including 'Serious', 'Serious Law', 'Serious Injury Law' and 'Helping to rebuild lives'. The official website we link to above is www.seriousinjurylaw.co.uk with the www.seriouslaw.co.uk version redirecting you there as well. Please note that www.seriousinjurylaw.com is a completely different firm and currently www.seriouslaw.com shows nothing at all.

Right now if you search for 'serious law' on search engines, this firm pops up at the top. However because the terms are generic words you may see adverts in the top 1-3 spots of the search results from time to time. Especially if you search for related terms such as 'serious injury' or 'serious injury law' which is the name of the website. It may therefore be a good idea to bookmark the site if you're looking to return just to be sure. Whilst scammers tend to target law firms that handle property matters, you never know what's around the corner so doing everything you can to ensure your personal details go to the right place and you're clicking the right buttons on the web is always advisable.

General Notes: Usually if Legal Aid is possible we've mentioned it above, but you can always ask. We haven't looked in depth at their recruitment program so are unaware of any job vacancies available. For a career with Serious Law LLP it's best to visit the website (www.seriousinjurylaw.co.uk), check opening hours, and find the correct phone/email contact details. Simply emailing a CV to reception looks lazy. Each law firm's Law Society and/or SRA number should be on their site, usually at the bottom of each page.
