Thamina Solicitors Ltd in Whitechapel, London: Review
If you've already read through some of our other law firm reviews, you'll know by now that we're always seeking unique firms to add to the network. Either in their case range, set up, service style, or just personality. Choosing between 10 law firms that all seem the same is not really 'choice' in our opinion.
Thamina Solicitors fit into the category of unique with ease. Let's begin with some background you might not be aware of:
This is the first solicitor we've had on the network with their very own Wikipedia page. Please note, however, that Mrs Universe is nothing like the much-maligned Miss Universe. As the name implies, the Mrs Universe event is open to women who are married/divorced/widowed and aged between 18-55. They must also have a family, career, and be involved in a "significant cause". It's actually hailed as a useful Human Rights Forum.
None of this is mentioned anywhere on the firm's official website. But that's quite understandable. People are very likely to spot the name of the competition and instantly assume the firm's principle solicitor is an air-head. A stereotype not completely unwarranted if YouTube is anything to go by. Even if a clarification note were provided, it probably wouldn't help.
So why are we mentioning it? Because people reading reviews are seeking in-depth and atypical information. People reading a firm's official website are generally skipping through looking for phrases that stand out. Therefore we agree it's not worth the risk of mentioning on the site in case of such misunderstandings. However we definitely want to point it out because it highlights the character of the person behind Thamina Solicitors. Married, family, career, multi-cultural, multi-lingual, and so on.
Thamina qualified as a solicitor in 2011, and after gaining experience working at a local firm - she set up her own in 2014. At the time of writing there are two other solicitors at the firm all focusing on a niche range of case types including Immigration & Family Law. This limited range is another reason we like the firm. The idiom 'Jack of all Trades' is great when attached to a local handyman, but not (in our opinion) when applied to a solicitor. The idiom's ending being 'Master of None'.
"We believe in excellent customer service ..."
"We use plain English ..."
"We provide high-quality legal advice ..."
The wording across the firm's website is not bad and certainly not a template. However it doesn't provide much to help you distinguish Thamina Solicitors from the majority of other firms you'll have checked out today. The snippets quoted above could have been copy/pasted from a thousand other sites. So what about reviews? Well, the firm actually has a lot more reviews available online that you'd expect from a small firm only set up in 2014. Please note that as the firm deal heavily with immigration, English is not the first language of some of the reviewers:
"He is nice and awesome skilled legal advisor."
"I have been telling my husband to change his lawyer for a long and finally, he did it, the way she ’Thamina Kabir’ remake our file and put the effort on it that was so ethical and presentable and we got a positive output from the court."
At the time of writing their Facebook page has around 1500 likes and 16 reviews averaging 4.9 out of 5 stars. On Google Reviews they have 20 positive comments and a rating of 4.8 out of 5 stars. That's a lot by comparison. But then you might notice that they have zero reviews on Yelp and only one review on Yellow Pages. This imbalance might lead you to believe that the reviews on Facebook/Google are fake. However, we checked and the reviews are all spread out over a few years and several of the reviewers have reviewed dozens of other firms as well (i.e it's not 30+ reviews all posted on the same day by brand new user accounts which have only ever reviewed the one firm).
We'll make a quick mention on navigation as the firm uses the generic 'solicitors' as part of the domain name. The official site is linked to above and is the .com version. Currently www.thaminasolicitors.co.uk is not owned by anyone and www.thamina.co.uk / www.thamina.com are different companies. We didn't check other variants such as using 'law' or 'legal' or any hyphens, because whilst the firm does pop up for most of the typical keyword variations on search engines, we still think it would be a good idea to bookmark the site once you know you're on it. Up till now, the majority of scams going around involving legal cases focus on property sales and deposits. However you never know what they'll come up with next, so better safe than sorry.
General Notes: Usually if Legal Aid is possible we've mentioned it above, but you can always ask. We haven't looked in depth at their recruitment program so are unaware of any job vacancies available. For a career with Thamina Solicitors Ltd it's best to visit the website (www.thaminasolicitors.com), check opening hours, and find the correct phone/email contact details. Simply emailing a CV to reception looks lazy. Each law firm's Law Society and/or SRA number should be on their site, usually at the bottom of each page.
