Mancini Legal Ltd Solicitors in Horsham, Haywards Heath & Billingshurst: Review
Having checked out Mancini Legal they appear to be a well-liked, well-respected, well sales-pitched firm with offices in Horsham, Haywards Heath and Billingshurst. Multiple offices usually indicates success, and their website certainly contains a good selection of glowing reviews. All the best buzzwords are there too such as "friendly", "modern", "innovative", "efficient" and more. However if you've spent the past few hours trying to decide on a solicitor, none of that is probably helping - because there are a lot of firms like that out there.
So how do you tell the firms apart if they all sound so great? Well, we can hopefully help with that. We've been staring at law firm's websites for nearly 20 years so notice the subtle differences other people might not. First, a lot of firms say they you can phone/email them 24/7. But this is sometimes just 'clever wording' because obviously you can phone or email anyone any time of day - that doesn't mean they're going to answer. So what do Mancini say on their site:
"... appointments can be made between the hours of 7am and 10pm Monday to Friday and at weekends."
"... our legal support execs are available for live chat on the web."
... and that's just a few. There's real clarity and an obvious goal to work with clients outside of the typical 9 to 5. If it were me, I would have put these statements in bold on the front page. Next are the reviews. Unfortunately, the testimonials law firms generally select to place on their website often sound the same and Mancini Legal are no exception in this regard:
"... I wholeheartedly recommend them..."
"... happy to recommend ..."
"... i [sic] would recommend them to those in need ..."
"... I can sincerely recommend his firm ..."
etc. etc. Most people don't believe testimonials on company sites (87% of you voted so in our last poll) but these seem genuine enough in our experience. The varied spelling mistakes certainly add authenticity, but still there's nothing there we haven't seen on a thousand other testimonial pages. However, underneath these reviews Mancini Legal actively encourage you to check out third party reviews on sites such as Trust Pilot and Google. You may not know just how rare that is. Most firms would rather you stick to the few hand-selected comments they've chosen and stay away from independent review sites. Mancini clearly have confidence in their customer service.
If you've been on dozens of sites boasting 100+ year histories and founding dates right back in Victorian times, 2012 must sound like an unbelievably new and inexperienced firm. We've covered this in articles before, but to put it very briefly - having a 200+ year old firm does not mean there is a 200+ year old experienced solicitor leading the team. All the staff currently employed at the firm could very well be under the age of 30 with minimal experience. It's only the firm's name that is old. It's a marketing gimmick. So don't judge a firm by it's founding date.
If you visit The Law Society's website you can look up which solicitors are registered to any firm and how many years they've been practising. The five registered solicitors at Mancini Legal have a combined total of 112 years experience. So whilst 'founded in 2012' sounds inexperienced, the actual solicitors working there most certainly are.
A good sign for any firm is their involvement in charitable work, whether local or national. Mancini's charity work is far too understated in my opinion. You may even have missed it. About half way down the page on Wills, it states that they are part of Will Aid. This is where some days are set aside each year and all solicitors taking part across the UK provide Will making appointments for free. The fee they would normally take gets given to charity instead.
Hopefully these examples will help you in the future to spot the difference between firms that on the surface seem to be very alike.
I will make a quick note about navigation though, as the official website is www.mancinilegal.com, not www.mancinilegal.co.uk which currently has no website at all. Considering the possible mis-spellings of mancini and the endless variants of generic terms (e.g. www.mancinilaw.com or www.mancinisolicitors.com) on top of that - then we would definitely recommend bookmarking the website if you intend to come back. Whilst the unique name will typically bring the correct firm up in search engine results, it wouldn't take much for someone to place a misleading ad which Google will unfortunately always place at the top. Most people are already aware of phishing where scammers buy and use domain names that are very similar to real companies so I won't labour the point.
General Notes: Usually if Legal Aid is possible we've mentioned it above, but you can always ask. We haven't looked in depth at their recruitment program so are unaware of any job vacancies available. For a career with Mancini Legal Ltd it's best to visit the website (www.mancinilegal.com), check opening hours, and find the correct phone/email contact details. Simply emailing a CV to reception looks lazy. Each law firm's Law Society and/or SRA number should be on their site, usually at the bottom of each page.
