Archways Solicitors in Manchester: Review
If you've been a bit tested by the length of some of our other reviews, you'll be happy to hear that this one will far briefer. I'll do my best to remain within the scope of just this firm and their setup, doing away with the typical tangents, asides, and metaphors. There is one I have to address for the sake of clarity, but that's it.
Why the sudden concise approach? Because Archways Solicitors themselves are missing all the flowery, word-filled, sales-pitchy pages you'd normally expect from a solicitor's website. This is odd because the firm is relatively new, and new firms often have a lot to say on their website as they devour every "Business 101" eBook and "How to Win Customers" YouTube video they can find.
We've already made the point a dozen times about how firms boasting "established in 1818" don't actually have 200+ years experience and you could still end up with a solicitor that only qualified a week ago. Law is one of the only industries where people unfortunately (and unfoundedly) think of "new" as a negative quality.
For example, the actual company "Archways Manchester Ltd" was registered in early 2017. But we checked the Law Society database and the 3 solicitors currently registered to the firm have 25+ years experience between them. Not everyone makes the assumption that a firm set up a year ago might have more than two and a half decades of experience behind it.
With a grand total of 5 pages, the Archways website merely states the basics including the general case types handled (e.g. Family Law, Immigration, Wills and Probate, Conveyancing, Litigation, Personal Injury, etc.) and their contact details. Even then, they're simply stated with no embellishment. Everything is in plain English, including this snippet we spotted in the not-so-small print of their enquiry form:
Clear and very open. It may be a rather extreme example of a 'jargon-free' firm, but it's a good one. The only other noteworthy chunk of information is about the firm's online document processing setup which they're obviously proud of.
I'm sure there are many firms that use such a system, so why this is the first time we've seen such a focus on it's existence is beyond me. It's a revelation that could very likely tip the scales in Archway's favour as clients weigh up their options.
The firm doesn't have much in the way of independent reviews in the usual places yet, so we can't comment on the general mood towards the firm. I will therefore leave it there for now and come back to update you later on. For those that enjoy the more in-depth analysis - normal service should resume for the next review which will absolutely require my usual M.O. of notes, comparisons and explanations as we'll be going 'international'.
I will make a quick note on navigation as we're dealing with a couple of things such as a double "s" in the name and the inclusion of a generic term "solicitors" as well. The official website we link to above is www.archwayssolicitors.com with none of the other main variants of www.archwayssolicitors.co.uk, www.archways.com or www.archways.co.uk being owned by the firm. With the range of potential misspellings (e.g. www.archwaysolicitors.com) and typical alternate terms (e.g. Archways Law/Legal/Lawyers/etc.) on this occasion we would strongly suggest bookmarking the site if you plan on going back and forth. Scammers and phishers often use similar domains and there are a lot they could use for this one. That's not a negative point for the firm. It's just an unfortunate side effect of their name and web address.
General Notes: Usually if Legal Aid is possible we've mentioned it above, but you can always ask. We haven't looked in depth at their recruitment program so are unaware of any job vacancies available. For a career with Archways Solicitors it's best to visit the website (www.archwayssolicitors.com), check opening hours, and find the correct phone/email contact details. Simply emailing a CV to reception looks lazy. Each law firm's Law Society and/or SRA number should be on their site, usually at the bottom of each page.
