UVS Law Immigration & Visa Solicitor in Burton-on-Trent & London: Review
UK Immigration Law is governed by the Immigration Act 1971, which has undergone several amendments over the years such as Chagos Islanders acquiring British nationality. The Act replaced previous immigration laws and introduced new regulations regarding immigration and citizenship. The Act also exempts individuals who have the right of abode in the UK from immigration control.
There are various categories of visas and permits available for individuals seeking entry into the UK. These include work visas, business visas, study visas, family visas, tourist visas, and transit visas. Each category has different requirements and eligibility criteria, and the application process may vary depending on the type of visa being sought. So how do you find the best immigration service for your particular needs?
That's a quote from the UVS Law website. Most firms will make claims about being 'exceptional' or 'committed' (certainly none will be claiming the opposite) but the thing to notice is that the firm specialises in immigration matters - i.e. it's the only area of law they deal in. There are firms which will state they 'specialise' in a wide range of legal matters including immigration. However this can only be true if they have individual solicitors within the firm each dealing with a select area of law. If there are only 2x people in the firm covering a dozen areas of law - they cannot be 'specialists'. Be careful of such wording on other sites.
UVS Law is a more recently set up branding than others, but it should be pointed out that the age of the firm bears no indication about the experience of the lawyer that will actually handle your case. You could end up with a 1-year qualified solicitor from a 50-year established firm, or a 40-year veteran lawyer from a brand new law office. Immigration is also a quickly changing area of law, so whether you choose a specialist firm like UVS Law or a specialist solicitor within a larger firm - it is clearly advisable to ensure the person representing you is focused and keeping up to date on industry and international changes. Especially with everything going on at the moment.
Typically when researching a service provider most people simply look up previous reviews. However you need to be very careful when it comes to legal services as not only are there stories about people pretending to be a lawyer when they are not, there are also some claiming to have special ways of ensuring your immigration matters will be dealt with successfully. While it's very (very, very) easy to assume all government officials are corrupt and take bribes, it shouldn't be necessary if your lawyer has the skills required.
It's often easy to check if a law firm or lawyer is valid in the UK by checking with the SRA and Law Society websites. You can look up a firm by name or the solicitor themselves. For a barrister this can be a bit more difficult as the Bar Standards Council don't have the best user-side information setup.
Entry clearance is required for most individuals seeking entry into the UK, and the requirements for entry clearance can vary depending on the purpose of the visit and the type of visa being sought. The Immigration Rules specify that an applicant for entry clearance must be outside the UK at the time of application. Failure to meet the requirements for entry clearance may result in the denial of leave to enter on arrival. Individuals intending to enter the UK under the Immigration Rules must apply for entry clearance before traveling.
This includes Business Immigration such as Sponsorship Licences and Skilled Workers, Personal Immigration such as Partner Routes (e.g. Spouse/Fiancee) and Leave to Remain, and Investors such as Innovator Founder and Entrepreneur Visas. Your immigration lawyer should discuss your options with you before making you decide whether to use their services.
General Notes: Usually if Legal Aid is possible we've mentioned it above, but you can always ask. We haven't looked in depth at their recruitment program so are unaware of any job vacancies available. For a career with UVS Law it's best to visit the website (www.uvslaw.co.uk), check opening hours, and find the correct phone/email contact details. Simply emailing a CV to reception looks lazy. Each law firm's Law Society and/or SRA number should be on their site, usually at the bottom of each page.
