CSL Law Ltd Solicitors in Croydon: Review

It's universally understood that people are more inclined to scour the web for places to leave a review if they've received bad service. Certainly there are plenty of places for such people to air their grievances. However, 1to1Legal is not one of them. So why bring it up? Well, our editorial/review articles on legal firms are created based on demand. If we see a lot of people using our internal search to seek a review article on a particular firm - we write one.

Yet despite CSL Law having been on our network since 2014, no-one has asked. Certainly we get repeat visitors coming back to search for their contact details. But apparently not to read or write reviews. From a statistical and sociological standpoint - that's a positive thing.

The typical review sites such as Yell, 192, Yelp, and Google have only a handful of comments and (at the time of writing) only the latter had a single negative one displayed. But even then it was one of those "Eh?" negative reviews where the complainant gave the firm a 1☆ because they don't handle her case type. Surely that is like giving Burger King a negative review for not selling pizzas?

CSL Law Ltd

The firm's website is concise, lacking the common chunks of sales pitches and flowery language we've seen appearing on others. Of course CSL cover a niche case range of Divorce, Dispute Resolution, and Employment Law so the site shouldn't be large anyway. Impressively their FAQs section is not a list of fake questions designed to allow them extra paragraphs stating how great they are. It's a genuine FAQs section about the case types they handle.

So instead of questions like "What makes our firm so amazing?" they have questions actually relating to legal matters such as divorce - e.g. "Can I change the locks to the family home?", "What are the consequences if I were to move out of the family home?", "My husband/wife has threatened to stop paying the mortgage and bills, what can I do?", and "Can I take my child on holiday abroad if the other parent does not agree?" - real questions that people would normally have to pay for answers to.

If you've done a cursory search on the web for the firm's name, you may see Company Search pages stating they have only been in existence since 2013. However that is only the date the 'Limited' version of the company was incorporated. If you check The Law Society website you'll see that whilst one of the firm's solicitors started practising in that year, Clive Stephen Lawrance (i.e. the C.S.L.) was admitted as a solicitor right back in 1997. Hopefully this should also point out the folly of thinking that a firm stating "Establish 1813!" has 200+ years more experience over a firm created in 2013.

As the head of the firm, Clive Lawrance specialises in Family Law and:

"... excels in all aspects of divorce with particular emphasis on the resolution of financial matters arising from separation. He is also a specialist in relation to children matters including contact and residence."

He is also a member of Resolution - an organisation of 6,500 family lawyers and other professionals in England and Wales promoting non-confrontational approaches to family mediation and campaigning for improvements within the family justice system.

This all sounds great of course, so coming back to the original point - why did we feel this review was needed now? Well, we like to keep an eye on things For example, you'll notice our list of firms to beware of in the right column. But we also check links, phone numbers, and general reputations of our network firms over time. This month, we noticed that when putting CSL Law into a search engine, Google brought back a mountain of irrelevant information. That's not unusual for Google, but in this instance it made researching difficult and it became apparent that unless people actually dug into some of the links - they might form incorrect assumptions. Reviews, information, and news articles on organisations such as the Charlotte School of Law, Colorado Senior Lobby, and even something called the Chinese Super League were popping up. So to make sure people didn't have to leave our site if they didn't need to and end up with the same problem, we decided to take a pro-active stance.

As much of the search results Google provided weren't even UK based, it doesn't seem as though CSL Law are at fault - i.e. lacking an online presence. In fact, they are one of the few that have bothered to create a Google+ social profile. Other public pages such as their Twitter feed are kept fresh with a good mix of self promotion, retweets, and links to relevant articles. It seems their only flaw is to have a popular acronym as their firm's name. There's not much they can do about that now.

That brings us to navigation. We link to the official www.csllaw.co.uk above and there is no current website at www.csllaw.com or other tlds. There are similarly named firms at addresses such as www.csllegal.com, www.cslegal.com and www.csl.com but none of the UK versions of those websites are currently owned by anyone. Usually we only strongly advise people to bookmark a solicitor's site when fraud is a possibility such as scammers preying on property transactions. But in this case, we'd advice it anyway just in case your memory lets you down as you type and you end up going in circles for a little while and cursing Google's name!

A last little snippet:

"Our team are approachable, organised, enthusiastic and offer a very high standard of service. Our clients are treated with a high degree of professionalism and a large proportion of our work is repeat business or through recommendation from existing clients."

General Notes: Usually if Legal Aid is possible we've mentioned it above, but you can always ask. We haven't looked in depth at their recruitment program so are unaware of any job vacancies available. For a career with CSL Law Ltd it's best to visit the website (www.csllaw.co.uk), check opening hours, and find the correct phone/email contact details. Simply emailing a CV to reception looks lazy. Each law firm's Law Society and/or SRA number should be on their site, usually at the bottom of each page.
