Mackenzie Jones Solicitors in St Asaph, Menai Bridge & Chester: Review

We try our best to provide a range of options for people searching for help. That means not just the regular high street solicitor but also barristers for direct access, accountants where a solicitor might not be needed for a tax matter, or paralegals for cheaper will processing. If we do add a general law practice in an area though, we try to find one that looks the most 'solid'.

Obviously we've added Mackenzie Jones Solicitor to our network so we clearly think positive things about them. The things we use to evaluate a firm are probably things most potential clients do as well. But also maybe some they don't, yet should. So here are some of the things we noticed and why they stand out to us as a firm that has worked in the industry for over 20+ years.

"In a tough legal world we are here to fight your corner."

Mackenzie Jones Solicitor

If you've scrolled through a dozen solicitor websites already today, you'll probably have noticed many of them have phrases like this which sound good but don't necessarily help you distinguish one firm from the other. In this example, there aren't really going to be any firms that say they are NOT going to fight in your corner - are there? So what does help?

"When the time comes that you need legal advice, you'll want to be sure that you're dealing with real experts who will work quickly and efficiently to help you"

This is true, and Mackenzie Jones have a good selection of staff profiles on their website with staff experience, history, and individual reviews for each. (More on that later.) Staff profiles are something we always recommend law firms to provide and these are excellent examples of the information consumers really want. Sadly we've seen many other firms focus more on the social side of things by stating each staff member's pets, hobbies, and even favourite foods. Just ... no ...

"Our legal service team have extensive experience"

One thing to be aware of when you're reading website text is that 'expert' and 'experience' are different things and you ideally want a firm with both. Even better: get an actual solicitor with both. Because whilst a fairly new legal practitioner can be bolstered by a good support team - there's nothing quite like having the experience in the bones of the person you are dealing with.

If you are searching for a lawyer in England or Wales you're in luck because there is a third party website providing independent information about most law firms in those regions. The Law Society of England & Wales is a site we've long praised for it's bountiful information and simple layout. If you check the pages on this firm you'll be shown all office addresses, case types handled, alternative contact details, and most importantly - the specialties and years active for each individual solicitor at the firm.

"Our story began in 2000 with a small office ... more than two decades later we have offices in Menai Bridge on Anglesey, St Asaph Business Park and Chester city centre with a vibrant team of twenty-three."

The staff roster shows a range of experience with legal professionals from each decade over the past 40+ years including Richard Jones who qualified as a solicitor in 1988, Andrew Jones who did so in 1997, Andrew Birchall in 2004, right up to Sara Parry in 2016. A team of seasoned heads but with fresh legs is surely the best grouping you could hope for in an industry that is also struggling to balance between the old and new.

Please remember to forgive law-related websites that use a lot of the same language or that make claims that practically every other law firm is making as well. That's because there isn't much else for them to say. Unlike companies that can talk endlessly about a product and provide specs - law sites have to fill the void with self-praise about their abilities because they are the product. For example:

"provide expert timely advice and communicate in a way that is clear and responsive to your requirements"

Again, no law firm is going to claim the opposite. But hopefully you'll be able to check up on what prior clients thought of the firm's communication and explanation skills through third party forums like Google, Yelp, Yell, and Trustpilot. There aren't always plentiful reviews about companies that work in the legal industry, but you should never take a lack of reviews as meaning anything negative. People simply aren't as quick to discuss their divorce, criminal defence, bankruptcy, etc. in public as they are about the local pizza place. So what are people saying:

"Any questions they replied efficiently and explained what we needed"
"reliable and professional throughout"
"always timely in their response to queries and have always kept me well informed"
"not simply interested in trying to get a monetary resolution to the problem but his first focus was in getting me well again"

Be aware that on Google you have to enter the actual city of the firm you are trying to look up - e.g. 'mackenzie jones solicitors chester'. Just entering the firm name only works if they have only one office to show. There are a considerable number of reviews for each office on Google and dozens of others across the other independent boards.

The majority are very positive and (unusually) very long and well written with plenty of information about what work was being done, the names of people handling the case, and specific aspects they liked. Normally you have to dig through several 'Excellent! Would recommend!' quotes to get to something useful. Put that all together though, and it backs up the firm's claim on their website:

"with the vast majority of our work being generated from returning clients ... and recommendations"

A quick note on navigation as the firm uses a shortened version for the web address. The official domain is www.macjones.com but currently www.macjones.co.uk seems to be owned by someone else. The full www.mackenziejones.co.uk and .com are both for a recruitment firm so no mixups expected there. However with this firm handling conveyancing matters you need to be extra careful.

For many years now the property industry has been the target of massive amounts of fraud due to the huge amounts of money being passed around in deposits/mortgages. Always make sure you are on the correct website and never discuss payments or bank details via email. If you're not sure, phone the official number you have been given - not the phone number being provided in the actual email you are suspicious of.

General Notes: Usually if Legal Aid is possible we've mentioned it above, but you can always ask. We haven't looked in depth at their recruitment program so are unaware of any job vacancies available. For a career with Mackenzie Jones Solicitor it's best to visit the website (www.macjones.com), check opening hours, and find the correct phone/email contact details. Simply emailing a CV to reception looks lazy. Each law firm's Law Society and/or SRA number should be on their site, usually at the bottom of each page.
