Stenfield Ltd Solicitors in Norwich & Harrow on the Hill, London: Review

One main difference between the types of law firm we typically cover and add to our search database is that the majority are not high street firms. We have niche practices, specialist consultants, barristers, and even non-law-firm related solutions to some problems such as debt or will writing.

Of course even in these days of 'modern' legal setups offering online case tracking and many matters being resolved without the client even actually meeting with their solicitor face to face - there are still a huge number of people that prefer the idea of a larger firm of legal professionals with a fixed, visitable office space.

"Stenfield Solicitors is a multidisciplinary law firm serving national and international clients from its offices in London and Norwich."

Stenfield Solicitors

Stenfield Solicitors therefore certainly fit that description, but it can be difficult to tell the various high street firms apart. Especially when the sales language, images, names and even logos can all start looking identical after the first dozen websites you visit.

"Specialising in a wide range of practice areas including commercial litigation, company commercial, residential property, commercial property, insolvency, employment and family."

One good place to start is a local law society website. There are dozens including those at the national, county and city level. Luckily Stenfield are members of The Law Society of England & Wales which is simply an excellent resource for consumer-side information. If you check out the page for any firm on their site you'll be shown any alternative trading names, the various office locations available, staff details, what case types they specialise in, and so on.

This helps to distinguish between those law firms that claim ancient establishment dates of their brand, compared with those that have actual real experience behind their staff. It's not uncommon for a firm claiming 'founded in the 1800s!' to consist mostly of solicitors with only a couple of years' experience. Whereas a new brand legal practice that popped up last month could have several well seasoned lawyers with dozens of years' experience between them.

In this instance Stenfield have solicitors on board that started their careers off in practically every decade over the past thirty years. This includes Joan Thorpe-Anderson who qualified in 1993, Caspar Kennedy in 2008, Deepa Sevani in 2015, and so on. A real mix of ages, genders, experience, and expertise that you would hope to see at any general practice firm you might be considering.

"Our key objective is to provide solid, reliable and cost effective legal advice delivered in an efficient and friendly manner."

Every firm makes a claim like this quote from the firm's website. But how are people feeling about the services they've received from Stenfield Solicitors? The firm doesn't have a testimonials page, but that's actually not a big issue for us or most other either. We ran a poll a few years ago which came back in the single digits for people that actually trusted the testimonial pages of company websites. That wasn't just the legal industry either. That was across all companies and some stated product testimonials as being untrustworthy as well. The majority preferred to read comments on third party forums such as Google Reviews, Yell, Trustpilot or Yelp.

"very impressed with the efficient handling of our case"

"We were kept informed throughout"

"absolutely fantastic and made my move completely and utterly stress free"

"Efficient, friendly and great value for money"

These are just a few snippets but the majority of feedback is similarly very positive. We did see a couple of complaints. However one was by a third party who's own solicitor lost against Stenfield, and the other didn't leave any helpful comments about what was wrong. We absolutely recommend reading through comments about a firm rather than relying on star ratings.

Unfortunately when no feedback is left it's hard to know if that person was even rating the correct firm. We've seen a law firm with a five star review for their pet-friendly cafe. We've also seen anti-capitalist rants copy/pasted across a dozen legal professional's review sections. Not to mention that Trustpilot's rating calculations mean that a firm with four 5 star reviews will end up with an average of 3 stars total.

"83% of new clients are recommended to us through word of mouth"

A quick note on navigation because although we link to the official site above as www.stenfield.com, there is a completely different firm using the www.stenfield.co.uk domain. Also at the moment neither www.stenfieldsolicitors.com or the .co.uk version are owned by anyone. Searching for the current branding of 'stenfield solicitors' will typically bring up the correct site. However you will need to enter one of the office locations such as 'norwich' or 'london' to get the popup box with all the specific reviews, opening hours, etc. Any mentions of 'Stenfield Limited' relate to the same company.

It's very important these days to keep fully aware of what site you are on and the legitimacy of the emails you receive. For the past few years thousands of people have handed over millions of pounds to scammers during property sales/purchases. Sometimes it has taken only a single email from a scammer to convince people to pay their house deposits into a completely fraudulent bank account. Never discuss payments or bank details via email and remember that even the most official looking email addresses can be faked. A last word from the firm's site:

"98% of clients said they were happy with the result we achieved for them"

General Notes: Usually if Legal Aid is possible we've mentioned it above, but you can always ask. We haven't looked in depth at their recruitment program so are unaware of any job vacancies available. For a career with Stenfield Solicitors it's best to visit the website (www.stenfield.com), check opening hours, and find the correct phone/email contact details. Simply emailing a CV to reception looks lazy. Each law firm's Law Society and/or SRA number should be on their site, usually at the bottom of each page.
