Dylan Nair Solicitors Ltd in Preston, Lancashire: Review

We obviously read through dozens of law firm's websites every day and the similarties between the content and the claims each make to set themselves apart as 'unique' can often end up blurring for us. However, this can sometimes make it much easier to spot something that really does stand out.

If you too have already been through dozens of websites today looking for a solicitor to help you with a legal matter, you may have noticed many firms all claiming to be 'modern', 'experts', 'experienced', and 'friendly'. Unfortunately such terms are actually unhelpful because no firm is going to claim to be 'draconian', 'novices', 'in-experienced', and 'unfriendly' - are they? So what parts can you use and where can you look for good information to compare lawyers against each other?

"Dylan Nair Solicitors Ltd give you as much FREE advice as you need to help you decide how to proceed."

Dylan Nair Solicitors Ltd

This snippet was underneath the firm's section on Family Law. They have a similar one under Personal Injury matters, but every single firm these days should run a compensation claim case completely free of charge. Just remember that 'no win, no fee' and '100% compensation' do not mean the same thing. No win, no fee just means that there will be no fees if your case loses. 100% compensation means there will be no fees if your case wins OR loses.

On this occasion the fact this firm is offering considerable free time for non-litigation matters is the point of note. Some firms will give you 15 mins, some may charge a reduced fee for an initial consultation, and some may offer you a good hour but with a very junior member of staff - i.e. not with the qualified solicitor that would eventually be running your case. So when Dylan Nair make a public statement on their site like this, it's not something to be glossed over. That's a decent offer by comparison.

"We understand you place a great deal of faith in solicitors; this is why we only use experts."

It's a growing trend (that we absolutely encourage) for legal offices around the UK to provide staff profiles on their website. The main points people most want to see are typically a photo, case specialties, and relevant work history. It may be a sad side-effect of the Facebook/Instagram age we live in but many people do make decisions about whether to use a solicitor or not much easier if there is a photo. Of course some firms have started putting their pet's names and favourite foods in profiles. That's not something we are so keen on.

If a solicitor doesn't have a profile on their website. Don't despair. The main points you need can often be gained from a local Law Society. The Law Society of England & Wales has an excellent site for this and Dylan Nair & Co just happen to be registered with them. If you take a look at the page for any particular firm you can see any alternate trading names, a list of solictiors working there, other locations, and even qualification dates of individual solicitors.

John Houghton at this firm qualified in 1975, Rajesh Nair in 1999, right up to Abhishek Benjamin in 2014. A good mix of seasoned pros and fresh blood within any company must surely be a good thing. Working within the legal industry we think it should probably start being mandatory. There's also a good mix of fluent languages spoken at this firm. Dylan Nair state being able to communicate in English, Hungarian, Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi, and Gujaraiti on their website. But again if not available on a firm's site, it is often listed in the law society database.

"We take the time to get to know our clients, work in partnership with them and are always striving for the best results."

There is a glut of people willing to share their feelings about any company or product online. So much so that when people search for reviews about solicitors but see very few - they could think something was wrong. But it's really not a negative sign if a law firm you're looking up has few or even zero online comments about them. Legal issues are very personal. So whilst someone might be very quick to jump online and talk about a pizza they just ordered - they may be more reluctant to discuss how well their dead father's contentious probate went.

"very responsive and helpful in every way"

"I eventually pulled out of the purchase, but was not charged any extra, and fees were transparent"

"were efficient and always answered our calls"

"There were complications and what was great is that they put the extra effort in to get it resolved"

There were plenty of reviews about Dylan Nair available on the regular sites such as Google, Trustpilot, Yell.com, Yelp, etc. As you can see from the snippets above, they're largely quite positive. Make sure to read comments when it comes to law firms though, not just flick through star ratings. You never know if that one star criticism is from an old opponent who lost to them, or a disgruntled client who's fraudulant whiplash claim got thrown out their office.

A quick note on navigation. Although the branding name used is quite unique and the possible spelling typos not likely to be too multitudinous. The official site we link to above is www.dylannair.com however www.dylannair.co.uk does not seem to be currently owned by anyone. Nor do any of the hyphentated variants (dylan-nair) or typical typos (dylanair). The official site is https secure for filling your personal details into their contact forms. But just keep aware whether you've come back to the correct site by either bookmarketing it for later or searching for the correct firm. It's when people mistype directly into a browser bar that things can sometimes go wrong.

The problem is mostly with property matters and conveyancing as fraudsters have managed to scam multi-millions out of people buying/selling a home. Often by simply emailing to tell say the bank details for their deposit have changed. Don't ever discuss payments or bank details via email is therefore one good rule to keep to.

General Notes: Usually if Legal Aid is possible we've mentioned it above, but you can always ask. We haven't looked in depth at their recruitment program so are unaware of any job vacancies available. For a career with Dylan Nair Solicitors Ltd it's best to visit the website (www.dylannair.com), check opening hours, and find the correct phone/email contact details. Simply emailing a CV to reception looks lazy. Each law firm's Law Society and/or SRA number should be on their site, usually at the bottom of each page.
