LS Legal Solicitors Ltd: Review
It can get very confusing when trying to find a solicitor for your case. In times gone by (we've been banned from writing 'in the old days') there would be a high street solicitor that would generally handle a wide range of case types. These days you can find a solicitor specialising in anything from Criminal Law to Housing Disrepair.
LS Legal is an interesting case study and a helpful way to explain how law firms can be set up these days. For example, many people seek specialist firms for cases such as Motoring Offences, Divorce, and Conveyancing in the hope that the focused attention and specific experience will provide a better outcome in a swifter time.
It's a misconception that any firm stating a wider case range must therefore spread their time between such cases and not have such a great amount of knowledge or experience as a specialist would. However there's a big difference between a solicitor that takes on too many varied types of cases and a legal practice with several specialists within the firm. But how can you tell the difference?
One online resource we've always championed is the website of The Law Society of England & Wales. Unlike it's Scottish and Irish counterparts, they provide a wealth of consumer information such as alternate contact details, number of qualified staff, languages spoken, case specialties, and even any other brand names used. All linked together in an easy to use database.
One major feature is they list the actual qualification dates and area of law specialties of each individual solicitor registered with them. If you look up this firm you'll see a range of experience types and case focuses. For example managing director Liliya Scott qualified in 2007, Jasmin Bugg in 2018, Lubov Galyarnyk in 2006, right up to Olena Lux who joined the ranks of lawyers in 2022. That's a considerable mix of seasoned heads with fresh eyes.
Although LS Legal displays several statements about handling a 'wide range' of cases, if you look closer you'll see many areas of law covered are related and it's not simply a jack-of-all-trades approach. That's the difference to watch for. If a firm has only 1-2 solicitors but handles every case type under the sun - then it's fair to assume they are not as experienced or up to date as a firm with several solicitors each focusing on one or two areas of law.
This becomes even more important for cases such as Immigration where the law is constantly changing, unbelievably confusing, and typically requiring some international knowledge. We very rarely push out direct advice in our articles but we have no problem stating that if the solicitor you're looking at hiring only works a handful of Immigration cases per year - try someone else.
Of course the first thing most consumers do when interested in a company is check out the public review boards such as Google, Facebook, Trustpilot, Yell, etc. Many companies provide a Testimonials section on their website and LS Legal is no exception. However according to our poll a few years back only 8% of you trusted reviews provided by companies on their own website. So what are the independent forums saying?
"professional and approachable, explaining anything I wasn’t sure about"
"extremely efficient with clear and concise communication"
"very knowledgeable, experienced and very professional"
The majority of comments left are positive like these snippets copied in above. We did notice much of the praise related to Immigration matters which seems to be a root specialty of the firm. They even have multiple vidoes dedicated to the subject on Youtube. But we were impressed by the fact that as they've grown they seem to have limited that growth only to areas of law where they could provide similar focused expertise. Hence why we were happy to recommend them across our network.
A quick note on navigation though as the official website we link to above is www.lslegaluk.com with none of the most common variants such as www.lslegal.co.uk/.com redirecting you there. This isn't as much of a problem on this occasion due to the case range covered by the firm. Unfortunately there have been thousands of law firm clients targeted in recent years such as those who've ended up handing over their entire house deposit to a fraudster's bank account. So always make sure you're on the correct site and speaking to someone you know at the firm.
General Notes: Usually if Legal Aid is possible we've mentioned it above, but you can always ask. We haven't looked in depth at their recruitment program so are unaware of any job vacancies available. For a career with LS Legal Solicitors Ltd it's best to visit the website (www.lslegaluk.com), check opening hours, and find the correct phone/email contact details. Simply emailing a CV to reception looks lazy. Each law firm's Law Society and/or SRA number should be on their site, usually at the bottom of each page.
