Lindsays Solicitors Offices in Edinburgh, Glasgow & Dundee: Review
Please note that the following article relates to the law firm Lindsays as a whole. The contact details and links above are for Calio Claims which is a specialist setup from Lindsays focusing on Personal Injury matters. Considering the size and scope of the firm though, you probably don't need much introduction to Lindsays solicitors themselves or a lengthy explanation as to why we have added any of their brandings to our database of recommended firms. However we thought it could be very helpful to take you through a few of the reasons we chose to work with them.
Whenever we consider a firm for adding to our network there are several checks we perform to ensure we're not recommending a fraudulent or fake firm. By that we mean there are many websites out there set up to look as though they are a legitimate personal injury or conveyancing firm - when in reality they are a front for case resellers. People who take your details and sell them on to actual firms to do the work.
The size of Lindsays organisation isn't the only indicator that they are a genuine, established firm and qualified to deal with your case. You can usually look up details about any firm with their local law society. Most law firms are signed up to a national, county, or town law society organisation. Lindsays are under The Law Society of Scotland, but we're sad to say the Scottish site is far outdone by English/Welsh version.
The Law Society of England & Wales also has a page on this firm. Lindsays deal with many cross border issues so have to deal with English law when it comes to things such as property sales. The English/Welsh law society's site provides a wide range of details on each firm such as alternate contact details, trading names, qualified solicitors at the firm, and even their qualification dates.
The firm isn't lacking in experience it seems with a mix of seasoned professionals such as Katherine Wyatt who qualified in 1998. But also several more recent additions such as Ben Doherty (qualified in 2004) and Douglas Roberts (2008). New blood with a steady hand is an enviable mix for any firm you might be thinking of using.
Lindsays does have the standard testimonials page, however it seemed to be a little more buried than usual. It was at least three clicks in from the front page and only if you notice it in the submenu of services for individuals. Whilst many legal practices and other industry companies will boast about their testimonial page, the fact Lindsays' page is not so well boasted doesn't really matter. A couple of years ago we ran a poll and (as we actually expected from our own experience) the huge majority of people didn't trust testimonials on company websites. Not just the legal industry, but all companies as a whole.
"made a stressful time a lot easier"
"Lindsays were able to identify the correct people to sue from a difficult and jumbled set of circumstances"
These snippets from Lindsay's comments page are obviously positive and that's probably one of the reasons people prefer independent board such as Google Reviews, Trustpilot, Yell, Yelp, etc. instead. To get a wider view that includes negative opinions. Preferrably with reasons commented next to any rating. So is this positivity reflected on the third party forums as well?
"got everything done in no time and got me a great settlement"
"Ross Hadden has been my solicitor for 13 years now ... consistently exceeds everything I ask of him"
The majority of reviews were very positive indeed. However on Google we saw the firm only had a 3.9 star rating despite most of the reviews being positive. After reading through the comments we saw three one star messages all regarding the same thing - with comments such as "Don't sell 20 stanley Road!" Apparently some of the local people wanted this particular property to be protected due it's history and their request was refused. So in true internet-style, those people came onto the review boards to bad-mouth the firm assigned to sell the property.
We've seen much worse though, such as a Criminal Law firm with a negative review for refusing to listen to someone about their divorce case. (No, really.) So never just flick through star ratings, always read comments to get a more rounded view of the pros and cons previous clients have discussed online.
Firms will often do charity events raising a few hundred pounds for something then get several news articles about it put out. That last sentence was obviously written with a very cynical tone. But I'm guessing most people that see articles with companies holding large cheques being handed to a charity rep - have a little cynicism in them too. But one thing that impressed us about Lindsays is the same sort of lack-of-boasting as we saw with their testimonials page before. They certainly have a page about things they sponsor but the chosen sponsorships look very specific and highly unlikely to result in much publicity. Their website also isn't plastered with carefully selected testimonials, boasts about awards won, or how wonderfully charitable they are. It's quite refreshing to see.
Hopefully we've given you a few new resources to use with these articles and provided a few bits of information you maybe didn't know before to help when deciding which firm you'd like to take your case.
A quick note on navigation. The firm uses the singular name of 'Lindsays' (not Lindsay's) in all it's branding and it's official website is www.lindsays.co.uk as linked to above. Search engines seem to bring up the correct firm no matter what variants we used. However www.lindsays.com and other common variants people will probably try such as www.lindsayssolicitors.co.uk are not currently owned by the firm.
Their own website is https secure for filing in contact forms with your details which is great. But in recent years law firms that deal in property matters have been targeted by scammers heavily. Most of the time it's just simply a fake email to clients telling them to send their house deposit to the fraudsters bank account instead. Why people fall so easy for this we'll try and put together an article on later. But for now remember never to discuss payments or bank details by email and even if someone phones you with queries - you can always hang up and call back the official phone number you know is correct. One last actually boastful sentence from the firm's site:
General Notes: Usually if Legal Aid is possible we've mentioned it above, but you can always ask. We haven't looked in depth at their recruitment program so are unaware of any job vacancies available. For a career with Lindsays Solicitors it's best to visit the website (www.lindsays.co.uk), check opening hours, and find the correct phone/email contact details. Simply emailing a CV to reception looks lazy. Each law firm's Law Society and/or SRA number should be on their site, usually at the bottom of each page.
