Goldsmith Bowers Debt Recovery & Litigation Solicitors in Bradford: Review

Goldsmith Bowers Solicitors have been on the network for a while now and we wanted to make a few points about researching firms in general. For example, this snippet from their website:

"Specialist debt recovery, litigation, and Insolvency lawyers since 2010"

In the legal industry a founding date of 2010 may sound almost brand new against the multitude of law firms claiming ancient roots from the 1800s and beyond. However we see such claims as basic marketing ploys. The idea being that the older the firm, the more experienced it is.

Goldsmith Bowers Solicitors

With people moving more freely between companies these days that is even less true now than it was fifty years ago. You could end up with a 1-year qualified newbie lawyer from a 200-year old firm, or a 40-year veteran from a 1-year old newly set up practice. The age of the actual brand name over the door at that point seem quite irrelevant.

"Specialists at Commercial Debt Recovery and Litigation"

We often get asked whether a smaller specialist firm is better than a large general practice firm. The answer isn't completely black and white, but certainly there is enough anecdotal evidence from our 20+ years in the industry to make the claim that people have found better results with specialist Motor Offence, Divorce, and Medical Negligence firms.

One thing to remember is to match the size of the business with the size of the case range. For example, if you see a law firm of two solicitors stating they cover a dozen different areas of law including Immigration - they are logically less likely to be able to keep fully updated on all legal guidelines for every case type versus an Immigration specialist firm.

"Flexible, quality service by experienced staff. Modern Systems. Excellent recovery rates"

We would never generally recommend one firm over another as each client's individual circumstances and even location play a huge role in which firm might be best for them. But we have no hesitation in stating a firm with a specialist business department or a fully specialist firm like Goldsmith Bowers are far more likely to be able to help with a commercial law matter compared to an individual solicitor who handles commercial matters only as part of a much wider case range. The opportunity for depth of experience is also with the former.

Not every firm is upfront about their areas of law or years of experience like Goldsmith Bowers Solicitors. If you need to check up on any firm you can usually do so through their local Law Society. This firm is covered by The Law Society of England & Wales which we have long praised for having the best user-side data offering. If you check out the page for any firm they will typically show you any alternate company names used, a list of staff, areas of law practiced, and the qualification dates of solicitors there.

"Our team of industry experts have been brought together to create a client focused business which understands our clients' individual needs"

So where can you find out if a lawyer is meeting those client needs? The place people normally jump to first when researching any company is the public review boards such as Google, Trustpilot, Yelp, etc. Unfortunately, though, there are far fewer reviews about law firms than other industries. While people are comfortable going online to say whether they like a pizza restaurant or not - they are less inclined to publicly discuss their bankruptcy proceeding, messy divorce, or criminal charges.

Therefore if you see a law firm has hardly any or even zero reviews online, that shouldn't necessarily be taken as a negative sign. Firms will sometimes have testimonial pages and here are a few snippets from the spots on the Goldsmith Bowers' site:

"dealt with the matter to conclusion, collected the full debt & avoided the need for legal action"
"we were kept in the loop, given options & advice every step of the way"
"we have seen very good recovery rates"
"securing significant debt recoveries across a range of customers"

But we are aware from our poll a few years back that people don't trust company provided reviews nearly as much as comments on the independent boards. We did notice negative reviews for this company online but they seemed to be the same one copy/pasted onto each forum. Whoever it was certainly seemed annoyed at the firm but it was a slightly odd claim about 'they are trying to silence me'?

"free consultation with one of our experts about your needs and how we can help"

Despite our modern times of free and easy access to communication, this offer of a free consultation is actually more rare than you might think. There are still plenty of law firms charging people money before getting to sit down with an actual solicitor. So don't dismiss such offers lightly.

A quick note on navigation with the firm's official website being www.goldsmithbowers.com however www.goldsmithbowers.co.uk does not currently redirect there. We've seen variants such as 'goldsmith and bowers' showing up in searches due to the number of law firms that use that separator for partner names in the firm. Always remember though that ampersands cannot be in web addresses (e.g. www.goldsmith&bowers.com/.co.uk can't exist).

Making sure you are on the correct website and not tripping up when typing in domains is mostly important when it comes to online scams including phishing or for people moving large sums of money around such as Property transactions. Over the past two decades people have handed millions over to fraudsters. Sometimes over just a single official-looking email telling them the bank account details to pay their house deposit into have changed.

General Notes: Usually if Legal Aid is possible we've mentioned it above, but you can always ask. We haven't looked in depth at their recruitment program so are unaware of any job vacancies available. For a career with Goldsmith Bowers Solicitors it's best to visit the website (www.goldsmithbowers.com), check opening hours, and find the correct phone/email contact details. Simply emailing a CV to reception looks lazy. Each law firm's Law Society and/or SRA number should be on their site, usually at the bottom of each page.
