Springle & Co Solicitors Estate Planning Wills & Probate in North Shields, Tyne and Wear: Review
We have written on a wide range of multi-practice firms over the years. But as more and more people switch from high street companies to seeking specialists services for practically everything these days - we've followed suit and started seeking them out as well. Springle & Co. Solicitors are such a firm, specialising in Estate Planning matters such as Wills, Probate, and Powers of Attorney. Estate Planning is what we would consider a fairly new term in the UK. Another phrase/concept we seem to have imported from the US.
At one point, more than two thirds of people were dying without leaving a will. This can cause huge issues for those left behind who are already dealing with the death itself. Those who did any future planning would typically get a basic will written and maybe take out life insurance (while taking advantage of whatever inheritance-tax-avoiding setup was available at the time). As the percentage of people writing a will has increased in recent decades, the idea of really thinking about what happens after you're gone has become more acceptable.
This statement from the Springle & Co website sums up the sort of direction Estate Planning as a product and service is going. Rather than separate services with different firms, you sort out everything in one place. A sort of wedding-planner for end-of-life (if that's not too dark an analogy). There are always new laws and taxes coming out year on year. Plus more and more people are owning their own business which brings an entirely different set of issues to consider should you pass on while that business is running. Then on top of that, families are much further away from the stereotypical husband/wife/2.6 children arrangement of old.
Life is complicated and so is death it seems. Increasingly so these days. While we're not pushing the idea that this particular firm is the best for you, we are certainly pushing the idea that planning properly is important. As well as ensuring the advice you get is from a qualified and experienced professional. Not someone in a call centre with very specific products to sell you.
But how do you work out which firm might be best for you? From each solicitor's website it's clear that all of them believe they are the pick of the bunch. The bees knees. The dog's ... you get the picture. The first port of call we usually recommend to help start telling them apart is The Law Society in your area. Either national or local. This allows you some insight into whether a firm at least has some genuine experience in that area of law.
Springle & Co is registered with The Law Society of England & Wales and if you check out the page on any given firm you'll be shown their location, specialties, and the number of years each solicitor within the firm has been practicing. For example, it states Claire Springle qualified as a solicitor in 2001 so that's at least two decades of possible experience.
Other common sources people use are independent review boards. At the time of writing we could not get any actual comments to pop up on Google for Springle's prior clients. Just some star ratings. However, this is common for legal service providers. People are less likely to jump online and write a review about their divorce, will, or criminal offence compared to praising the pizza they just got delivered. We did find some reviews on Facebook:
"would highly recommend and will definitely use again"
"very professional throughout and we are so grateful for all the hard work"
"Would definatley [sic] recommend. Customer care second to none."
They are all positive as these snippets show. A quick note on navigation with there being four words in the official branding Springle, and, Co, Solicitors) which can interchange with ampersands and have 'company' mixed in too. There is an unrelated firm called Spring & Co Solicitors so just be careful how you type and click. The official website is www.springleandco.co.uk which we link to above, with www.springleandco.com not currently owned by anyone. Although that's probably not too much of a concern because typically scammers target property matters - not wills. Apparently it seems to be much easier to convince people to hand over their house deposit to a fraudster. Always keep aware of what site you're on and who you're chatting with - either by email or phone.
Springle and Company do have a page on their site listing itemised fees. Something much rarer for a law firm than you might think.
General Notes: Usually if Legal Aid is possible we've mentioned it above, but you can always ask. We haven't looked in depth at their recruitment program so are unaware of any job vacancies available. For a career with Springle & Co Solicitors it's best to visit the website (www.springleandco.co.uk), check opening hours, and find the correct phone/email contact details. Simply emailing a CV to reception looks lazy. Each law firm's Law Society and/or SRA number should be on their site, usually at the bottom of each page.
