Redwood Collections Ltd - Debt Recovery Services based in Croydon: Review
Redwood Collections is a debt collection firm based in Croydon. On the 1to1Legal search function we always try to ensure there's a balanced number of specialist firms such as this alongside the general practice firms that cover a range of legal and/or business matters. One of the benefits of using a debt collection company such as Redwood over, say, a firm of solicitors - is usually savings in both time and cost.
The opening line on the firm's website does reflect what we have always said in the past. No disrepect meant to the many law firms that handle debt collection, but using a firm that is solely built to handle this single case type does generally provide more speedy results.
Another very good incentive to use a debt agency such as these is their pay-on-results mentality. Redwood Collections was created in 2009 and states it has helped over 17,000 clients so far. The usual testimonials are pasted on the firm's site, however (as our poll last year informed us) people tend to ignore testimonals on company sites. Luckily there are dozens to look over with third party sources:
"Account manager kept me in the loop at all times and was very accommodating with the specific approach we wanted to take. VERY fast turnaround ..."
"I had a long standing debt that I could not get paid. Redwood managed to get my money back. I was very pleased with the outcome ..."
Oddly the vast majority of the reviews are positive on Google, Yelp, Yellow Pages and others. I say oddly because quite often it is the debtors that leave reviews on a debt collection firm and they are obviously bias in the opposite directly. So if you do see negative reviews of any debt collection company - pay attention to whether they just happen to be the person that ended up having to pay the debt - i.e. a win for the actual client.
This is quite true and something to watch out for when seeking a debt company to help you. Some are only set up to send threatening letters. Some are set up to send threatening letters and do some doorstep visits. Some are setup to send threatening letters and to doorstep visits that are backed up with a legal department already in place. Naturally, many of them charge much more but if you can find one like Redwood Collections that offer pay-on-completion promises - then it's a no brainer. Unfortunately there are companies out there that will charge you a fee for doing the threat letters but then simply hand the case back to you if those letters fail.
This is happily becoming more common amongst legal industry firms, debt companies, conveyancers and more. Why it's taken so long for such firms to create apps and online admin areas to keep clients apprised of what's going on is anyone's guess. By now though, we would actually suggest avoiding any firm that doesn't engage in good technology-based service such as video conferencing or fast email responses.
Their website is expectedly at www.redwoodcollections.com with www.redwoodcollections.co.uk not currently going anywhere. There aren't too many possible variants to worry about and scammers tend to target other legal matters such as property and wills anyway so no concerns to raise here. A final word from Redwoods site:
That may sound a little cliche but considering the other points we've marked and raised above, a couple of regular sales-pitchy bits are nowhere near as bad as you've probably come across already today.
General Notes: Usually if Legal Aid is possible we've mentioned it above, but you can always ask. We haven't looked in depth at their recruitment program so are unaware of any job vacancies available. For a career with Redwood Collections Ltd it's best to visit the website (www.redwoodcollections.com), check opening hours, and find the correct phone/email contact details. Simply emailing a CV to reception looks lazy. Each law firm's Law Society and/or SRA number should be on their site, usually at the bottom of each page.
