Chippenham Information:
Chippenham is twinned with La FlΓ¨che in France and Friedberg in Germany. It was a royal vill, and probably a royal hunting lodge, under Alfred the Great. Chippenham lies 4 miles south of the M4 motorway, which links the town to Bristol, Swindon, South Wales and London. There are a number of other industrial sites around the town, Bumpers Farm being the largest. It is being electrified to make train times faster from London to the West Country. Council projections for 2009 estimated a population of 42,060, the actual figure was 43,880. The town is circumvent toward the west by the A350, which connects the M4 motorway with Chippenham and close-by towns toward the south, for example, Melksham, Warminster and Trowbridge. Encompassing the town are various stone-fabricated towns, including Lacock (National Trust), Biddestone, Bremhill, and Castle Combe. ... [snippet] Read more here »
