Joanna Connolly Solicitors in Liverpool, Merseyside:
Joanna Connolly Solicitors is a sole practitioner law firm striving to provide a high level of service for consumer credit, contentious probate, and insolvency matters. When you visit their website, you'll also notice a real focus on clear, flexible pricing structures.
Joanna Connolly (LLB Hons) herself, is a Solicitor Advocate - qualified to represent clients as an advocate in the higher courts across England and Wales. Previously Head of Consumer Credit Litigation at MSB Solicitors, Joanna has had extensive litigation experience in both the County Courts and High Courts level.
The firm can offer assistance in defending County Court claims as well as statutory demands issued by creditors. They do not act for banks or lending institutions, allowing them a clear focus on one side of the fence. No conflicts - which is nice. They also cover mortgage mis-selling by brokers and lenders, financial mis-selling, (including mis-sold PPI), as well as growing into the developing laws and cases relating to "Unfair Relationships" between bankers and their backers that affect how they sell to clients.
Whilst listing themselves as a debt advisory service, they are solicitors so do not work in conjunction with any lenders. For consumer credit disputes, they also list themselves as consumer credit specialists, helping consumers when court proceedings are either being threatened or already issued. For example, a loan may prove to be unenforceable in the courts by a creditor if hidden commissions have been paid without your knowledge, payment protection insurance (PPI) has been mis-sold, or if the lender has breached the consumer credit act. They also deal with setting aside statutory demands over consumer credit agreements where goods and services have been purchased using credit.

On top of that, they offer advice and services relating to Will Disputes, Inheritance Act Claims, Personal Insolvency, Employment Problems and Lasting Power of Attorneys (LPA's).
Unusually for a law firm, their website is dotted with statistics of their services and successes. For example, when we checked their site it stated that during their firm's history they had: won 78% of cases, lost 2% of cases, had 20% of cases dropped, and recovered 75% of legal costs. That last one is quite important. Whilst many firms offer no win no fee and 100% compensation guarantees for things such as personal injury - the same is not always offered for other case types. Often a conditional fee arrangement is put in place where the client pays no money up front, but as much as 25% to 30% of any monies 'won' during a case will be paid to the solicitor on completion. Make sure to ask and discuss in depth how and when the solicitor taking your case expects to get paid.
If you are experiencing debt problems and being threatened with possible court action Joanna Connolly Solicitors naturally advise you to seek legal advice immediately. Whilst they don't say much about free initial consultations, the website does mention the Conditional Fee Arrangements (CFA's) I talked about before, but - again unusually - they also offer a Pay As You Go service. You will be able to purchase "one-off Pay As You Go (PAYG) legal services at any time with prices starting at just £250 for a specific, agreed legal service to be performed" by them according to the site. I recommend a phone call to confirm the ins and outs of that though.
Whilst obviously focused on financial law matters, they also work on contentious probate, disputing a will, inheritance laws, personal insolvency, employment law court advocacy, and more.
