Southport Information:
[snippet ...] Peter Haden, Fletchers Group chief executive, said the acquisition was the latest step in a strategy to scale up its operation which already employs hundreds of people in Southport, Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds, Bolton and Cambridge. The SRA said it was also found that Mr Burns failed to respond to requests from the Legal Ombudsman for explanations and information throughout the course of the investigation. Due to its position by the coast, Southport is a linear settlement and as such can only be approached in a limited number of directions by road. The county contains several football clubs, with Everton and Liverpool playing in the Premier League. Also one of the main shopping areas in the town, Chapel Street, has undergone a pedestrianisation scheme to be similar to parts of Liverpool city centre. In 2024 Southport elected its first ever Labour MP since the creation of the constituency in the 1880s, with Labour politician Patrick Hurley succeeding Conservative incumbent Damien Moore. » Read entire article »
Court of Protection Information:
[snippet ...] The Court of Protection had previously existed as an office of the Senior Courts of England and Wales, which had been governed by the Mental Health Act 1983. In response to the ruling by the European Court of Human Rights in HL v UK (2004) (the 'Bournewood' judgment) the Act was amended by the Mental Health Act 2007 in July that year. Its primary purpose is to provide a legal framework for acting and making decisions on behalf of adults who lack the capacity to make particular decisions for themselves. The National Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards Sub Group gives national authority, support and guidance in the conveyance of the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) and the Deprivation of Liberties (DOLs), inside human services crosswise over England. The ability to delegate Deputies is allowed by Sections 15 to 21 of the Mental Capacity Act 2005. Key components of the DoLS are that the individual must be furnished with an agent and given the privilege to challenge the hardship of freedom through the Court of Protection, and that there must be a system for the hardship of freedom to be assessed and observed frequently. » Read entire article »
