Wildcat Law Ltd Solicitors in London & Southampton: Review
Today's article is on the legal firm Wildcat Law as there are a few things we can point out about this firm that might help you generally when seeking a legal professional to assist you with your case. If you've already been through a dozen law firm websites today you'll probably have noticed a lot use the same sort of 'sales language'. For example this snippet from the Wildcat Law front page:
Most companies use words such as modern, practical, friendly, professional, experienced, etc in their website text and it all sounds great. However if you think about it no firm is ever going to claim to be the opposite - i.e. outdated, impractical, unfriendly, unprofessional, and inexperienced. So such statements don't really help you distinguish one firm from another. So what can?
That quote is from the website of The Legal 500 who review tens of thousands of lawyers and their firms each year and assign awards for various categories. Alot of firms might state they are 'award winning' without ever actually letting you know whether that award was for best logo design or something actually useful for practicing law. Wildcat Law are listed in The Legal 500 which is a very positive independent review of their services.
This statement on Wildcat Law's site is another that stood out to us as important. For the entirety of the 20th century people had to take their case to a solicitor who would then hire a barrister to represent the matter in court (if it came to that). But since the roll out of The Direct Access Scheme you no longer have to pay someone to hire someone else to do a job. You can hire a barrister yourself.
Wildcat Law have gone a step further in this process by having both types of help within one firm. That is very rare even now despite Direct Access having been around for over a decade. The combination of the two avenues gives a much wider scope to potentially help clients faster and at a lower cost.
Another third party website we often recommend is that of The Law Society of England & Wales. They have a very useful user side offering of data regarding a firm's contact details, staff, languages spoken, and areas of law covered. The most important part in our opinion though is the qualification dates of solicitors within the firm. This lets you gauge the amount of actual experience a law firm might have at its disposal.
Whilst many firms claim huge histories with tag lines such as 'established in 1881', the founding date of a firm is actually pretty meaningless if they assign a 1-year qualified newbie lawyer your case. If you check the page for Wildcat Law on the Law Society site you can see a range of legal experience including David Burrows who qualified in 1973, Aidan Loy in 1997, Ceri Stafford in 2003, Nichola Gordon-Jones in 2018, right up to Natalie Spence who joined the profession in 2022. A good mix of seasoned minds with fresh eyes.
Hopefully those insights can help you when researching any firm. But a quick note on navigation. The official website we link to above is www.wildcatlaw.co.uk which is https secure for submitted your details in the contact form, but www.wildcatlaw.com does not redirect you there. The firms branding is quite unique so even error searches we tried such as 'wildcat legal' brought up the correct firm. Also note that if you are searching for reviews on Google these days you often have to enter the location as well as the firm name to see comments people have left. So searching for 'wildcat law london' versus 'wildcat law southampton' will bring up different individual results/reviews.
All this is hugely important due to the number of scams targeting law firm clients. For example thousands of people have handed their entire house deposit when buying a house straight into a fraudster's bank account. Sometimes simply because they received an official-looking email saying the payment details had suddenly changed. Always make sure you're on the correct site and never be afraid to call up the firm if you're unsure about anything.
General Notes: Usually if Legal Aid is possible we've mentioned it above, but you can always ask. We haven't looked in depth at their recruitment program so are unaware of any job vacancies available. For a career with Wildcat Law Ltd it's best to visit the website (www.wildcatlaw.co.uk), check opening hours, and find the correct phone/email contact details. Simply emailing a CV to reception looks lazy. Each law firm's Law Society and/or SRA number should be on their site, usually at the bottom of each page.
