DSL UK Debt Collection Services in Redditch (nr Birmingham) - Debt Solve UK: Review
DSL UK is something new on the 1to1Legal network. For more than a decade and a half we've been helping people get the legal help they need from good law firms around the country. However, times are changing. That's why we started getting barristers on board for direct access to save you time and money. That's also why we've reached out to bring on board some non-law-firm partners to cover things that you may not need a solicitor for at all.
Established in 2006, Debt Solve UK is based in Redditch, Worcestershire. (Does anyone honestly know if they are saying 'worcestershire' correctly???) In 2014 there was a small name change to DSL. They cover Debt Collection, Credit Control, Door Knocking, and Tracing Absconders. Even after a decade though, it sounds as though DSL has remained a grounded firm with the directors still being involved in the case work and day-to-day running. Usually, by ten years in, the directors of any successful firm are taking 'meetings' around the country and 'research missions' abroad.
The company's director, Mike Brooks, still calls himself a Debt Collection Consultant on the information page. He has been in the collection industry for over 30 years, starting his career as a bailiff. After eight years on the board of his previous firm as operations director, and after becoming an active board member of The Association of Civil Enforcement Agencies, he decided to set up on his own with his wife Linda. Debt Solve UK Ltd was created starting with a specialisation in Veterinary and Hospitality debt.
Linda Brooks, his wife and the company's Managing Director, has spent 20 years in debt collection and credit control - which she gained great experience in during her time in the credit control department of a large national engineering company negotiating debt payments for hundreds of thousands pounds.
Debt collection is not a nice business. No-one on either side of it is getting the result they want. The company owed the debt may have to accept less money or the same money but over a longer period of time. The debtor, usually defaults because they simply don't have the money to pay - so are already in a bad position mentally and financially. That means the people working at a debt collection agency often have to have strong stomachs and resolve to undertake even basic cases.
The management team apparently have over 30 years experience in debt collection between them. Based just south of Birmingham, they have easy access to a wide population layout for personal contact and collection services. They have local knowledge and claim to follow "traditional debt collection methods". We're not sure what that means. But I don't even know what traditional fish and chips means at my local chippy. It might be a good opening question though if you're thinking of using their services?
They state that their customers always see a significant improvement to the cash flow, along with reduced costs associated with collection services. More importantly, with DSL's involvement, the structure is put in place to decrease the number of cases that even go to the debt collecting stage. They state that their customers continue to recommend them to other businesses because of this.
Amongst DebtSolve's services is the Quick Check facility. This allows businesses to check the up to date credit score of their customers to help keep that cash flow intact. Results are usually provided the same day with all CCJ, insolvency, IVA, bankruptcy, etc. information you would expect.
They also offer a door knocking service. This is for businesses who have lost touch with their debt owing customer completely. Either they are not answering their phone, letters, or whatever. DSL will actively go seeking to ascertain whether they have indeed moved home ... or are just not dealing with the problem. Subsequent to that would be their absconder tracing service. The Track & Trace service works on a no trace, no fee basis so that if they don't find the person - you don't pay. They will usually be able to give you a wealth of information during the search too, such as CCJ history, Electoral Role Confirmation, Employment Verification, Company Directorships, Property Ownership and so on.
Their Terms Check service is the first time we hear mention of solicitors on the Debt Solve UK website. Specialising in law firm debt collection, DSL will have Else Solicitors LLP go through the terms and condition the practice's contracts to ensure that any useful action that can be taken for failure to pay - can be taken. Often, contracts themselves are what will let the debt collection process down. Vague statements about the length of time to pay, costs for failing to pay, and so on are not just errors for law firms. We've been on the wrong end of terms and conditions here at 1to1Legal! Yes, even solicitors skip out on their bills from time to time! A good set of terms will help protect you against liabilities, risks and potential debtors.
Obviously with the name change, pinning down the website advice we like to give has been tricky ... and therefore quite worth it. We have spotted several variants on the web address that we list above. The only one we can vouch for is www.debtsolveuk.biz, which currently redirects to the main www.dsluk.net website. However, www.dsluk.co.uk and www.dsluk.com are both owned by different companies - as are www.debtsolveuk.co.uk and www.debtsolveuk.com, and that's without getting into the many others with names such as DSL Ltd. Which means it is probably best to bookmark the site once you are positive you're on the correct one to save problems later. It is not uncommon for spammers, virus makers and phishers to use similarly named domains to confuse people. And when you're dealing with money and payments - being sure is always best!
General Notes: Usually if Legal Aid is possible we've mentioned it above, but you can always ask. We haven't looked in depth at their recruitment program so are unaware of any job vacancies available. For a career with DSL UK Debt Collection it's best to visit the website (www.dsluk.net), check opening hours, and find the correct phone/email contact details. Simply emailing a CV to reception looks lazy. Each law firm's Law Society and/or SRA number should be on their site, usually at the bottom of each page.
