We've been working in the legal industry as a company since 1999, but many of our staff at 1to1Legal have been working in various law related capacities for longer than that. So we know a lot of the changes that have occurred and Family Law representation has seen it's fair share of those. Not least with the external social impact of the changing world on the types of cases and new legal precedents coming to the forefront year after year.
A couple of decades ago, a Family Law specialist practice such as Kee Solicitors would have been incredibly rare. The only commonly found law firms that specialised in such a small niche were Criminal Law firms and still to this day everyone always looks up for a tried and tested veteran lawyer when they're trying to avoid having more points put on their license. But the 'high street solicitor office' handling a wide range of cases was more common.
These days there are specialist firms for practically every case type. We have one niche firm on our network handling only life-changing injury claims and another that only represents whistleblowers. So if you have flicked through a dozen firms saying they are experts in family matters, how can you tell which is best - or at least best for you? For example, this quote above taken from the Kee Solicitor's website sounds great. But the claims are not unique. All firms will say they have these qualities. Have you ever seen a legal practice saying they are outdated, lacking transparency, and unapproachable? Of course not.

Conversely, this next statement from Kee's website may seem like a very basic, uncommon one too. But we can confidently state it's not. Certainly we've seen hundreds of legal professional sites with 'make a free enquiry' above the contact form, but that doesn't always mean the same thing. It could mean as little as a 5 minute chat with a trainee solicitor or just a call centre operator with a templated questionnaire over the phone. The Kee one clearly says a solicitor will call you back.
There is an amazing resource online that provides you with a wealth of details about a firm including the expertise and experience of every solicitor within it. Sadly, that resource is the Law Society of England & Wales which doesn't cover this Scottish firm. The Law Society of Scotland displays only the most basic pieces of information. We can't even link to an actual page detailing just the solicitor's names. The firm has its own staff profile page listing some information and background about each solicitor. Hopefully one day the Scottish database will be as good as the English (which is a tough thing to say as a Scottish firm ourselves!)
"handled my case very professionally and always did everything in a timely manner"
"fast action taken, good communication"
"helped me through a really difficult time"
With such external resources not available to help, most people turn to the public review boards such as Google, Trustpilot, Facebook, etc. The snippets above are from such independent boards and are mainly positive. The firm does link to a testimonial page on their site, but it looks as though it has a built-in display of their Trustpilot reviews. That can certainly be a bit more helpful than the highly rose-tinted and hand-picked testimonials some firms choose to post on their site. It also seems to show a bit more faith in their services, as they are not in control of all the reviews Trustpilot shows about them.
Their front page was a little more cluttered than we'd usually find on solicitors' websites. It was all relevant stuff such as a pop up box to click to see those Trustpilot reviews, a chat dialogue pop up, a scrolling intro header section, etc. But that made some of the drop down menus and site text a little harder to single out and use. Apart from that though, the site is happily concise providing the information you would want to read rather than hundreds of pages with bland articles simply for trying to get more pages into search engines. (Yes, if you wondered why that last site you were on was so pointlessly massive - that's why.)
A quick note on navigation. The branding matches the web address with www.keesolicitors.co.uk being the official site. www.keesolicitors.com does not redirect you there though and there are a few other firms with 'kee' in the name such as the Kee Law Firm. But in the variants we tried the correct firm came up in searches. The site is also https secure for submitting your details via that callback form. If you're trying to look for reviews on Google it is becoming more common to have to enter the location as well as the firm's name - e.g. 'kee solicitors in aberdeen'.
This is more important for clients hiring lawyers that deal with property matters than family law clients really. The property/conveyancing market has been plagued for years by scammers tricking people into handing over their entire house deposit. But you never know what fraud might come your way, so be vigilant about what site you're on and what you discuss via email.
