Thaxted Legal Ltd Immigration Solicitors in Chislehurst, London:
We've written over 200+ articles on legal service providers in the UK with tips on what to look for when trying to get legal help, resources you can use, and things to avoid. We even have a list of the most 'problematic' firms based on the complaints databases. So you'd think we'd always have an arsenal of tools to research any firm we come across.
Sometimes, like many consumers, we just have to go with our gut. The absence of negative information isn't the best indicator of a positive choice. But the phrase 'no news is good news' has stood the test of time for a reason - i.e. it more often than not a successful way to think. But gut choices don't always have to be without a solid foundation.
This snippet from the Thaxted Legal Ltd website says exactly the same sort of things you'd see on any law firm's site. It's not as if any firm will say they are NOT experienced, dedicated, and providing quality services. So what indications are there that this firm is a better choice than others?

This may sound like another throw-away phrase any firm would state, but it's actually not. Immigration is an area of law like Divorce and Motor Offences where people really do want an expert. But we think it's even more important for Immigration because the laws involved are constantly changing and can often involve the laws of various other countries as well.
We don't often give out specific advice in these articles. But if you see a firm of 1 or 2 solicitors stating they handle every case type you can think of from Personal Injury to Family Law, Criminal Law and Immigration as well - chances are they are probably not able to keep themselves as well informed or up to date as a specialist who only deals with such cases.
Normally for firms south of the border we are able to point people to The Law Society of England & Wales which has a simply excellent lookup function for legal professionals. It provides alternative contact details, related firms, aka company names, and qualification details of every solicitor. But Immigration specialist firms are sometimes only registered with the OISC (Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner) which provides much less. Sadly the government body doesn't even provide a good advisor search function and when trying to look up a firm there is a mountain of reading involved just to find the link to take you to the page that takes you to the link that takes you to the search box etc. etc. etc.
So if there are no official good places to get information about the firm you're researching, the next obvious thing people try are the public boards such as Google, Trustpilot, Yelp, Yell, etc. So how do Thaxted fare on these independent forums?
"clear explanations and quick turnaround"
"She helped me to prepare a new application and submitted everything in a few weeks. And then less than three weeks later, I received the new visa"
"followed the processes up to date and warned about the deadlines"
These are just a few snippets from various reviews left but still provide a pretty general overview of the comments we saw. They were all very positive and helpfully provided examples of why each of them were happy with the service rather than just blank ratings. That's always something to watch out for especially with multi-office firms or firms with non-unique names. We've seen law firms with great ratings for their new restaurant menu and negative comments about their parking machines. So make sure to always read through ratings rather than just glancing at average stars.
So with Thaxted Legal immigration services being overseen by the OISC, members of the ILPA, registered as a limited company with companies house, and having positive reviews - it's safe to say they are a legitimate immigration firm. With them only handling immigration matters it's also safe to assume they will be more up to date than a solicitor trying to handle a dozen different case types at once.
This fact is forced home quite strongly when you see the wealth of free information on ThaxtedLegal's website with articles on everything from 'How to complete a UK visa application form' to very niche subjects like the 'Unmarried Durable partners EU Settlement Scheme'. This kind of offering demonstrates two things (to us at least). One - that they are interested in being generally helpful to people seeking such help. Two - that they really are fixated on their chosen profession and can eagerly sit around writing such articles!
Hopefully that covers why we were happy to add them to our network of recommended firms. A quick note on navigation though as the firm's official website is www.thaxtedlegal.com which we've linked to above but none of the variants such as www.thaxtedlegal.co.uk, www.thaxted.co.uk or the .com redirect you there. The latter being about the town with that name. There are also several other Ltd companies with Thaxted in the name so just pay close attention when looking up things like reviews.
However the usual security concerns we point out are much less pressing when it comes to immigration specialists because we don't know of any current scams focusing on their clients. There are countless numbers of fraudsters attempting to coerce property clients into handing over their house deposit. There are always some trying to fleece Will Writing service seekers or Injury Claimants in different ways too. This doesn't mean you shouldn't still be very careful online though. You never know what scammers will think of next.
