Ventura Law Ltd Solicitors in London & Amersham:

Often when people are searching for legal representation they search for specialists such as "employment law solicitor" or "expert divorce lawyer". The belief being that firms which focus solely on one particular area of law can handle such cases better than general practice firms which state much wider case range coverage.

Is it possible for a law firm to be 'specialists' in several areas of law at once? Well, yes. Certainly there are lawyers out there who will try their hand at almost anything. However most lawyers will specialise. So if you bring a divorce case to a larger firm, they'll direct you to their family law specialist. Speeding? They'll transfer you to their motor offence specialist.

"highly professional, highly knowledgeable, highly successful ... a small firm that gets big results"

Ventura Law therefore truly do specialise in a number of issues such as employment, family law, professional negligence, commercial property, and contentious probate. You can usually check up on a solicitor's specialities and time-served using The Law Society's website. The page for this firm shows the qualified members of staff. If you click on their names then scroll down to 'Areas of Practice', you'll be shown what case types they currently focus on.

Finding a Law Firm in the UK

The staff at Ventura are certainly a mix, with qualification dates ranging from 1998 to 2019. Mixing old and new ideas within any firm is always advisable for steady progress. They also provide quite in-depth staff profiles for people to read over. Not the 'favourite food' and 'nickname' type profiles we've seen popping up on other solicitor's websites though. These pages provide details of each person's expertise and experience with a few case examples thrown in.

"We use all the legal muscle available and where necessary, we know how to tell them to go to hell in such a way they’ll look forward to the trip!"

The firm's site is full of language you probably won't expect and that's obviously deliberate to try and show the firm as being different. Some people may find it refreshing and some might just be put off. But at least it's free from the regular clichΓ©s such as "we're modern but traditional" or "we're professional yet friendly" or "we're unique yet seem to say the exact same things the last hundred firms said ..."

So what about the actual service? If you've been searching through legal professionals for some time now, you must have noticed the huge difference between reviews the firms post on their website vs comments posted to public forums such as Yellow Pages, Google, Yelp or Facebook. These are snippets from the firm's own testimonial page:

"You are quite simply the best. Thank you very much for your help."

"I found the firm to be incredibly valuable in all my dealings with them."

"I always recommend them to anyone looking for legal advice or representation."

"He broke down all the brick walls in our dispute and for that I will be forever grateful ..."

"... they achieved a successful outcome AGAINST ALL ODDS."

"Awesome to have a law firm like this on your side."

"Himanshu is one of the first names on my Xmas card list ... and I know that I can count on him"

For some reason, 'company testimonials' talk more about how amazing the firm is with heavy use of adjectives. 'Public reviews' talk more about what happened and what specifically the firm did or did not do well. Naturally the former doesn't really help you decide if the firm is a good fit for you. The latter certainly can help, but only if comments are left alongside ratings. People who leave one star ratings with no context to say why should be ignored in our opinion. We've genuinely seen a negative review against a Criminal Law firm for refusing to take on someone's Divorce case.

Ventura Law's public reviews seem to read quite different from others we've looked at over the years though:

"Prepared for meeting and had examples to share. Gave solid opinion backed by facts. Made me feel I was in responsible hands."

"Himanshu and his team are not only highly professional, they are also kind, compassionate, patient and a pleasure to deal with"

"... helped my wife whilst trying to agree a flexible working request following from maternity leave. Himanshu understood the need to balance her needs as a new mum and with his advice I am pleased to say she has now agreed terms ..."

Normally when you see several reviews that are well written, all five stars, overly flattering, all written the same day, or provided by single-review users - the assumption is that they are fakes. We've come across this issue before with law firms though, and it is sometimes the case that the firm's clientele are simply made up of other professionals who all like to write clearly and spellcheck everything before posting. Commercial Law firms get a lot of these. Conversely you'll see a lot of exclamation marks and allcaps in reviews for Personal Injury firms.

We didn't see any mention of opening hours on the firm's website. However on their Google Business listing it states 8am-7pm / Mon-Fri. We do like to see firms offering at least some out of hours appointments, even if it's just one weekend a month or late night phone/Skype appointments. Ventura Law are open before most other law firms in the morning and close a good couple of hours after most lawyers have shut their doors for the evening. With such long hours, we can't begrudge them the weekend off.

A quick note on navigation as off the bat we saw www.venturalaw.com was a completely different firm. The official address we link to above is www.venturalaw.co.uk and there are obviously dozens of possible errors if you misremember them as Venture Law, or Ventura Solicitors instead. Many of the variants such as www.venturalawyers.co.uk / .com or www.venturelaw.co.uk / .com are all owned by other people. So it's probably a good idea to bookmark the website once you're on it just to be sure. Normally it's conveyancing firms and their clients that are targeted by scammers, but you never know what's ahead so do everything you can to keep safe.

"solutions found, disputes resolved, victories won ... turning your stumbling blocks into stepping stones"
