Antony Hodari Solicitors Housing Disrepair Specialists in Manchester:
We try to cover a range of solutions for legal problems including having general practice firms, specialists, barristers, and non-law-firm services as well. Antony Hodari Solicitors are a very niche firm covering just one specific case type within the area of litigation - housing disrepair.
As specialists go, this is an unusual one to find. We've been working in the industry for over 20 years and whilst we've seen firms specialising in divorce or car insurance claims - that's usually because those types of cases can be very profitable. Housing disrepair on the other hand are cases we've always understood to require considerable work for the amount of pay off for the solicitor.
Normally when that's the case (just like the medical negligence firm we reviewed yesterday) there is usually a specific interest in these case types for the people who founded the firm. Almost a 'crusade' mentality. The firm we covered yesterday were very explicit about how their divorce experiences had led them to create their alternative mediation service. But we didn't find out the spark that created Antony Hodari. If we do discover it, we'll let you know. It certainly does help to have someone very interested in your specific case type handling the matter for you though.

Quite often on law firms sites you see unhelpful and sometimes quite tenuous founding dates such as 'established in 1881'. You might also see claims such as 'combined experience of X years' which simply means all the staff's experience years added together. To us that's a bit of a cheat. Antony Hodari's claims in the snippet above were taken from their front page and are much more believable and can be checked on too.
We always recommend taking a quick look at the local law society page for any firm you're thinking of using. It will tell you alternative trading names they use, other possibly more local offices to you, languages spoken, speciality case types, and more. They even provide the qualification dates of any solicitors working at the firm which helps to highlight whether a firm is exaggerating their experience claims.
If you check on the page for this firm you'll see their solicitors have a wide range of experience covering almost all of the last four decades. Antony Hodari himself qualified in 1981, Emma Rees in 2000, right up to Rozina Bibi who qualified in 2017. There are several others within that range creating a good mix of seasoned experts partnered with fresh legs. Something you'd want in any company really.
Another thing people always check on are the public reviews in places such as Google, Trustpilot, Yell.com and Yelp. When it comes to legal firms we absolutely recommend reading reviews rather than flicking through star ratings alone. That's because law firms are one of the few service providers where the losing side often comes online to criticise the firm that beat them. We've also seen many disgruntled reviews over solicitors refusing to take someone's case. One we saw last week was particularly odd because the complaint was about a criminal law firm that refused to handle a 'simple injury claim!'. It takes all sorts I guess.
The bulk of reviews for AntonyHodari were positive and many reflected their claim quoted above about promising to keep people in the loop:
"great at keeping me updated on the progress of my case, and always responded to my emails"
"extremely paitent with me, explaining everything in plain English, (I have severe dyslexia)"
"finally got our landlord to take responsibility"
A quick note on navigation. There shouldn't be too many problems though as the firm name is unique and doesn't use generic terms. So you should get the correct firm popping up on most expected searches. Just watch out for ads using keyword matching to display. The official site we link to above is www.antonyhodari.co.uk but at the moment www.antonyhodari.com doesn't redirect there. The only common typo we saw in our logs was for www.anthonyhodari.co.uk with an 'h' in the first name. But the name is so unique that if you type 'anthony hodari' into a search the correct firm still pops up. Their site is https secure for entering your details into their contact forms.
The issue with related domains not being owned or incorrect searches really only affects law matters where the client has to pay the solicitor large sums of money. Those are the obvious targets for fraud. Over the past few years alone people have lost millions to scammers over property matters when buying or selling a house. We never know what fraudsters will come up with next though so just keep aware of the sites you're on and never discuss payments via email.
