HCR Legal LLP Solicitors Law Firm incl Medical Accident Group in Worcester, Birmingham & Hereford: Review
There is a wide range of law firms to choose from when seeking legal help. Everything from a one-person sole practitioner setups to multi-office practices with hundreds of staff. HCR Legal LLP is the latter. But no matter what the size of a firm, checking up on them usually has some common things you can try. Every firm will put amazing sounding sales-pitches on their websites:
That's a snippet from the front page of the HCR site. However, since no other firm is going to say they do not have a passion for people - or that they don't care about making a difference to people's lives - this information doesn't really help you distinguish this firm from any other.
To check up on any statements a firm makes about happy clients, people usually turn to the public review boards. Many firms offer 'testimonials' on their websites. However it's the independent forums most people turn to and prefer such as Facebook, Google and Trustpilot.

Those are some snippets from those public boards. As you can see they are generally positive. We highly recommend reading through actual comments left rather than simply flicking through star ratings. Often you can see themes in both the positive and negative comments which can help you define the pros and cons of each firm better.
One issue people might encounter at the moment is Google has separated the reviews so that you can only view reviews of each individual office. HCR Legal has 10 locations at present: Worcester, Cambridge, Ross-On-Wye, Reading, Cheltenham, Hereford, Northampton, Cardiff, Birmingham, and London. So you have to look up "hcr legal cheltenham reviews" to see comments about that office while "hcr solicitors worcester" will bring up completely different feedback. There is no page showing all feedback for the company as a whole.
HCR Legal has several different trading styles and alternate websites too. This above is a snippet from the Medical Accident Group website. It's dedicated to helping people who have been injured directly by, or through the negligence of, doctors, nurses, clinics, dentists, physios and other healthcare professionals. This doesn't seem to be just a gimmicky extra to target people. Because on the site it states their Worcester, Birmingham, Hereford and Ross-on-Wye local offices specialise in this area of personal injury law. While their Cambridge, Cardiff, Cheltenham, London, Reading and Northampton locations cover the more wider areas of law listed on the firm's main site.
One great resource we always recommend to people is the website of The Law Society of England & Wales. They offer a highly useful selection of data to the public about the legal professionals registered with them. For example, if you check out the page for this firm you'll see a full list of alternative trading names they are known by. You'll also been shown various contact details, office addresses, areas of law they cover, and even languages spoken at each firm.
Most importantly they list the qualification dates of any solicitors working within each firm. HCR have hundreds of staff including solicitors with experience covering the last six decades. The database states Paul Broad qualified in 1979, Simon Biggin in 1983, Julie Acock joined the profession in 1991, Lynne Adams in 2005, Syed Alam 2012, all the way up to Hannah Akhtar who is a relative baby in the industry having qualified in 2023. That's a huge range of experience levels within the firm mixing wise old heads with fresh eyes - which can't possibly be a bad thing.
Over that length of time there have been several name changes and mergers for the company during growth. The Law Society lists Child and Parent Law, Eagle HR, Harrison Clark Rickerbys inc Gordon Lutton, Harrison Clark Rickerbys inc Shawcross, wills at work, HCR Hewitsons inc Houlden Sweeney, HCR Law, and HCR Legal LLP Licensing, all as trading names they have used or are using.
The main ones seem to be HCR Legal LLP, Harrison Clark Rickerbys Limited, and HCR Hewitsons. The main website is www.hcrlaw.com however there are others like the medical accident group site mentioned above. Both sites are HTTPS secure for submitting your personal details in their contact form. Just keep aware of which site you're on and what you discuss by email as fraudsters are always looking for ways to part you from your money. For example, while www.hcrlaw.co.uk redirects you to the main site, other variants such as www.hcrlegal.com are not currently owned by the firm. So it may be best to bookmark the site if thinking of coming back.
General Notes: Usually if Legal Aid is possible we've mentioned it above, but you can always ask. We haven't looked in depth at their recruitment program so are unaware of any job vacancies available. For a career with HCR Legal LLP it's best to visit the website (www.hcrlaw.com), check opening hours, and find the correct phone/email contact details. Simply emailing a CV to reception looks lazy. Each law firm's Law Society and/or SRA number should be on their site, usually at the bottom of each page.
