Scotland Injury Solicitors from Baker Hardman Ltd in Glasgow: Review
Over the past few decades the number of law firms merging, changing branding, or increasing the number of brands they work under has grown considerably. It seems so long ago that you would have a handful of solicitor offices in your local high street that handled everything. Compare that with the abundance of legal professionals waiting to help you online, and the change is astounding.
With so much choice though, how do you know which firm is right for you? There are some resources online you may not be aware of and some things to watch out for when scrolling through the various law firm websites. You may have already noticed many of them use similar sales language and images.
That's an opening line from the website of Baker Hardman Solicitors, a firm handling a range of legal matters with offices in both England and Scotland. It sounds great, but most firms will make claims such as these on their websites too.
There will be no law firm on the internet claiming they have zero experience. But luckily if you are in England or Wales you are able to check these claims independently. The Law Society of England & Wales has an excellent user side database for people to research legal service providers. For any firm you can look up alternative trading names, contact details for all offices, areas of law covered, and details about the staff. This includes whether they are qualified solicitors.
Unfortunately, Scotland's law society is nowhere near providing such useful information to its residents. With our own firm being based in Scotland, that's a difficult thing for us to admit. Hopefully they will get their butts in gear and catch up to the English/Welsh version soon.
This statement on any website may actually be more important than you think. There are thousands of websites targeting potential law firm clients to try and get them to hand over their case details. These details are then sold on to law firms, rather than actually going directly through to a solicitor yourself. Our 1to1Legal website never asks you for your personal details and does not sell your information on. To be sure you are on the website of an actual solicitor you can look the firm up on the SRA website and it will tell you the official web address of the firm.
Again, this is another phrase people might overlook as most assume they will be able to talk to their solicitor about the case at any time. However, some firms employ paralegals to do most of the work and interact with the client. There are plenty of really good, experienced paralegals out there. But it can result in having to wait for callbacks as the paralegal goes between you and the solicitor in charge. So when a firm states you have 'direct access to your solicitor', that's actually a useful thing to note.
For statements such as these people usually turn to the independent review boards such as Google, Trustpilot and/or Facebook to verify whether previous clients have been happy with the service. While many firms provide customer testimonials on their website, most people tend to ignore them. So what are people saying on the comment forums?
"handled professionally and efficiently"
"kept me updated so I was in the know"
"without hassle and explained everything perfectly"
The majority of reviews were positive. There were several negative comments left but they were difficult to get a grip on. Some were complaining about third parties related to the case, while others simply left a negative star rating with no explanation. We have seen law firms with 5 star ratings for their pizza and negative ratings for a divorce firm refusing to take on an injury case. So we always recommend reading through comments when looking up a firm rather than simply flicking through star ratings.
A note on navigation as there are variations to bear in mind. The official main site is www.bakerhardman.co.uk but the .com version does not redirect you there. There is a separate website for the Scottish branch at www.scotlandinjurysolicitors.co.uk which uses the branding of Scotland Injury Solicitors as well. Their office is in Glasgow but if you enter a phrase such as "baker hardman solicitors in glasgow" Google currently returns results for a firm called Bradley Baker Solicitors. This is an older name so you may wish to bookmark the site you want to return to just in case.
Both of the firms official sites are HTTPS secure for submitting your details in their contact form. Just always try to keep aware of which site you are on and who you are emailing back and forth with. As most fraud related to legal services happens via email. Some have handed thousands of pounds over to scammers sometimes based on a single email. So keep aware.
General Notes: Usually if Legal Aid is possible we've mentioned it above, but you can always ask. We haven't looked in depth at their recruitment program so are unaware of any job vacancies available. For a career with Scotland Injury Solicitors from Baker Hardman it's best to visit the website (www.bakerhardman.co.uk), check opening hours, and find the correct phone/email contact details. Simply emailing a CV to reception looks lazy. Each law firm's Law Society and/or SRA number should be on their site, usually at the bottom of each page.
